I have been itching to do a Dewalt Table Saw Review. The DEWALT DWE7491RS 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw is a portable table saw that can be carted around on its own wheels with a very sturdy frame and still cut things up really well and fairly accurately. It works well for multipurpose garage spaces or moving outside for working out in the sunshine or adjacent to the project assembly area. Let’s dig a little deeper and find out what it is best for.

My review is going to be from a hobbyist or project oriented mindset. If you have the resources to set up a dream shop, there will be a recommendation hidden below.

Dewalt Table Saw Review of Features

The sturdiness, solidity, and the rack and pinion extendable rip fence are best of class for both the 10 inch(7491) and smaller 8 1/4 inch(7485) bladed models by DeWalt. It will cut to it’s maximum depth of 3.125 inches without binding if operated properly. The 7491 runs at 4800rpm and will fully support a sheet of plywood if you need to rip into 32 1/2 inches of the 4 feet of width. Most other saws that will only support 24 1/2 inches making it a little less accurate and safe with proper tool education and safety protocols.

Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Sturdy
  • Fairly Accurate Repeatable Cuts
  • Solid
  • Simple to use
  • Good Safety features
  • The deployment of the stand is intuitive and feels like you are setting up a very sturdy “card table.”

Cons:

  • It is Heavy at 110 pounds, but for someone of my size 6′ 4″, 3XX lbs. it is manageable.
  • This is Less often on Sale because it does not have to be.
  • Dewalt Table Saws Reviewed here are the color of a Bumble Bee.
  • Included Miter should be replaced for accuracy if you don’t have a reliable miter saw.
  • Most saws are best to check on angled cuts with a angle gauge/protractor so the angle gauge could be more accurate if nits need be picked.

Personal Experience

I spent a lot of time getting to this purchase. I had a lot of trepidation on this the way people have about Routers, and Circular Saws. I grew up in a house with a Radial Arm Saw and Circular Saws where my Dad circumvented the safety features and nearly died of it. Human reflexes can never trump gravity and mass.

That being said, modern circuitry is better because of things like soft start and included safety features like blade guards and riving knifes/splitters. I started my big tool journey with a sliding miter saw, and worked my way up to a brave purchase of different routers and then my Dewalt Table Saw reviewed here.

I own the saw I am reviewing. I waited until it was on sale for 500 dollars up from previous sales where it had been sub in the high 300s. I have used it to rip down 2X4’s and sheet goods but mostly, cutting repeated parts using a self made cutting sled based on Tamar/3X3 Custom’s fun smaller sled.

Pricing

The DWE7491RS is more expensive than the budget and starter tools, but worth it just for the solid fence system, It is only rivalled by the Saw Stop that runs more than double the price on a stand that is not as sturdy and is more akin to the rolling rocker stand you get with a Bosch, Evolution, or Delta saw. (Those always felt to me more like a piece of lawn furniture with micro adjusters versus the wide-solid 7491RS.

Alternatives to the Dewalt Table Saw Reviewed here

Prices below are from ACME Tools discount website or “called out retailers”. All Tables Saws listed come with stands except where noted. Late December 2023 for this Dewalt Table Saw Review.

  • Dewalt DWE1491RS Jobsite10 inch: $650 (REVIEW SUBJECT)
  • Dewalt DWE7491X scissorStand 10 inch: $680
  • Dewalt DWE7485WS scissorStand 8 1/4inches: $450
  • Rigid R4514: $700(amazon)
  • SKIL SPT99-11 10inch HvyDty Worm Drive: $650
  • Bosch 4100XC-10: $600
  • Milwaukee 8 1/4 inch: $570(homedepot with scissor stand.)
  • Evolution RAGE5-S: $500 (this is a special weird saw. entertaining reading about it.)
  • Delta 36-6023: $450
  • SKIL SPT99T_018 1/4 inch Worm Drive: $520 with scissorStand
  • Metabo C10RJSM: $450

  • SKIL TS6307-00 10 inch weird fold down legs for stand: $300
  • *SawStopCompact 10 inch with scissor stand : $1020
  • *SawStopJobsite 10 inch : $1600

The only portable model as generally as sturdy as the Dewalt, is the SawStop Table Saws of the same general class, but trumps most of the weird rocker stand variety because of their general safety features. When its safety feature is activated the SawStop fires a specialized honeycombed aluminum block into the spinning blade to stop it when an electrical/capacitance connection is made with the blade.

This can result in hundreds of dollars of expenses to get the saw running again versus tens of thousands of hospital bills and rehabilitation (if it is possible) after a terrible workshop injury. If price is no object, I suggest you stop reading and get a Sawstop saw.

Customizability

These lovely saws can support a Dado Stack for digging longer, deeper channels in things for cabinetry. The decently sized work area is good for running sleds on. It is so well made that I was able to take apart the sheet metal cladding and repaint it green as a will full way of unifying it with green shop tools and decor. I eventually had someone make me vinyl letters to be greener than the bumblebee yellow. I am a bit weird that way. I even enjoy doing Dewalt Table Saw Reviews. Weird, huh?

Conclusion/Summary

I enjoyed doing this Dewalt Table Saw Review for you. Yes it is nice. Either size of blade is a good functioning alternative for the more powerful models. The 10 inch blade Jobsite Saw with 15 Amp motor has been able to do all I have pushed it to do. The frame and build sturdiness and parts are very solid and among of the main reasons I bought it. If money were no object I would spend 3 times more and buy a SawStop, but if money were no object I would have a separate shop room for every main function, and I would still have this Dewalt as my travelling site saw.

mirrors on the back of tall rolly cabinets to make a dancers wall of mirrors.

Right now, I do not want a tablesaw to be the center of my working space. My main table in the work space is 2ft by 7ft and has my Metabo Sliding Miter Saw on a flip-up central panel. On top of that, all my main cabinets can be rolled out of the garage/shop and space can be used by my wife as an exercise and belly dance rehearsal space. Making these things happen for other people are a far cry from where I started my journey, but where I always hoped I could go with as much purposeful creativity as possible.

Learn all you can, borrow or rent tools to learn about handling them and buy things you need as you need them.

I have no regrets about this saw.
